Like many 18 year-olds, Tom Pepple wanted to strike out on his own and see his home town of Grants Pass in the rear view mirror. After several years working in sales, he wanted to return to the Rogue River Valley. Tom settled in Medford because he wanted his family to live in a healthy city with strong family values and a warm community spirit. Tom quickly became active in the community. He was paying it forward in return for all the area had given him and his family.
Tom found work selling and installing Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). But he wanted to start his own business, one that would help other businesses become more successful. He discovered there were no ATM distributors between Portland and San Francisco, and Retail Profit Systems was born.
RPS grew steadily, adding hundreds of new clients over the years. Tom focused on his growing team and strong customer service more than sales, answering phones personally and handling installation and maintenance one-on-one. Clients loved Tom’s personal approach, especially having a dedicated team of experts to work with.
As word spread about how RPS was changing the nature of the business, ATM clients shared how they wished their payment processing companies took care of them the way RPS did. Their daily payment processing included merchant account issues, dysfunctional gateways, programming glitches and long hold times waiting for a help desk. These issues bothered Tom, and he knew it was time for a new approach to payment processing.
Retail Profit Systems offered clients the same personalized approach for payment processing that they pioneered in the ATM industry.
